Jones鈥 papers on theoretical physics published in prestigious professional journals
Dr. Preston Jones, 不良研究所 assistant professor of physics, has two papers on theoretical physics appearing in related international professional journals.
The first paper, titled 鈥淓lectromagnetic radiation from temporal variations in space-time and progenitors of gamma ray burst and millisecond pulsars,鈥 was published last December in the 鈥淚nternational Journal of Modern Physics D.鈥 It describes the connection between general relativity and the two previously unrelated astronomical phenomena of gamma ray burst and millisecond pulsars.
Jones鈥 second paper, titled 鈥淭he general relativistic infinite plane,鈥 appeared in the January issue of the American Journal of Physics, which is the most widely read physics research journal in the world.
The January paper is the result of collaboration with Fresno State University, and solves the problem of the mass distribution in Einstein鈥檚 famous thought experiment for the equivalence between acceleration and a uniform gravity source. This paper also provides an introduction for physics students to higher dimensional problems in brane worlds and string theory.
Jones came to 不良研究所 from Fresno State in January 2007 to join the mathematics and physics faculty.
